Our Superhero Boys
Our Superhero Boys Inc. is a registered organisation set up by family and friends for two children in the Kynaston family, Archie and Jensen, who have been diagnosed this year with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).
DMD affects around 1 in 3 600 males and is caused by a mutation in the dystrophin gene, located in the human X chromosome. It’s an important structural component within muscle tissue that provides structural stability in the cell membrane. The disorder results in muscle degeneration and premature death.
Weakness in the muscles of the legs and pelvis is usually the first signs of DMD, followed by the arms, neck and other areas. As DMD progresses, braces may be required to aid in walking and most boys require a wheelchair by the time they enter their teens.
The organosation “Our Superhero Boys Inc.” has been set up to raise money for funds to aid Archie and Jensen for their future medical costs and equipment/aids that will be needed to provide them with access in their home and community.
